Folk/Naïve Art
Naïve art ideally describes the work of artists without formal training from an art school (but this is not always the case). The work is often executed in an awkward manner in terms of formal art technique but typically has a charming, childlike quality that has become increasingly popular and recognized as a legitimate art form. Other terms that can be applied to the art form are, primitive art, folk art, outsider art and art brut. Some important outsider artists include Jean Dubuffet, Henry Darger and Henri Rousseau.
