Darvin Jones
Although Darvin would rather be an actor, iron-chef, super hero or astronaut he has embraced his role as an artist. He sums it up; “life is art and art is life, they really are inseparable. I know it sounds cliché but most people have some idealized fantasy of artists - everyday life is where it all happens“.
My artist mission is simple, I want to make beautiful works that offer a visual experience for viewers to stop, look, listen and transcend their everyday perception and heighten their awareness. If my work can simultaneously offer beauty, a natural emotional response, a space in time and a sanctuary to get lost and find something, then I have accomplished my role. If my work can also offer insight, cultural critique and contemporary relevancy while creating happiness then I will be able to sleep well at night.
Darvin studied sound art and musicology at Evergreen State College in Washington and earned a Master of arts in soundscape composition at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. After spending years in the world of sound, he stumbled into painting and found an immediate gratification from the direct tangibility that exists in visual art.
