The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

January 16, 2010 | No Comments

I saw the visually delightful new Terry Gilliam film “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” yesterday and I was blown away by the film. Gilliam did a massive visual dump and buried me in  a pile of Victorian, Buddhist, and crazy hyper- industrial revolution imagery. Wonderful! and I would expect no less from the maven of wonder. We all know that this was Health Ledgers last film and watching his performance reminds just how huge of a talent was lost. Gilliam does an excellent job seamlessly merging Ledgers role with Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Collin Farrell—saving the film from an untimely death. Ultimately this film is about imagination, Gilliam’s and the audience,  and the story is just ancililary. Indeed the story seemed to disolve into a bit of aimless ramblings in the middle but I didn’t care.  Add a diobolical Tom Waits to the mix along with the stunningly beautiful Lily Cole and this film is a rocken good time. Larry gives this a big thumbs up on the coolness scale.
